We have gathered answers to the questions visitors ask most often. If you can’t find an answer, write to us or give us a call.
What we offer schools
Župančič’s poems accompany children from kindergarten to their school-leaving exams. At the Memorial House, they can experience them where the poet was born – among objects, manuscripts and stories that are not in the textbook.
We tailor the visit to the age group and the curriculum; it can last one school lesson or a whole morning.
Educational programmes
We prepare programmes specifically for different age groups:
- Pre-school children: a playful encounter with Ciciban, rhymes and riddles.
- Grades 1–3: the poet’s childhood in Vinica and Dragatuš through stories, play and creative activities.
- Grades 4–6: from his children’s collections to a first encounter with the poet’s life and times.
- Grades 7–9: Župančič, Cankar, Kette and Murn – Slovenian modernism up close.
In literature for children, the very best is only just good enough.
For secondary school students
We introduce secondary school students to Župančič as a poet, playwright, translator of Shakespeare and editor, and to his place in Slovenian modernism. The tour can be linked to the study of selected texts in class.
Materials to prepare for your visit
Before the visit, you can read the following with your pupils and students:
- Life and Work– A Brief Overview of the Poet’s Journey,
- Chronology– four periods of his life,
- Župančič and Bela Krajina – the poet’s childhood memories,
- Bibliography – poetry collections, works for children, and translations,
- Ciciban’s World – an exhibition for the youngest.
New content after the renovation
As part of the renovation project, the house will offer new contemporary and digital solutions that will let children and young people get to know the poet and his works through interactive, hands-on experiences.
