Between Life and Art
Get to know the poet whose rich body of poetry for adults and children left its mark on Slovenian and European culture.
Oton Župančič, one of the renowned four authors of Slovenian modernism, ranks among the most important poets in the history of Slovenian literature. His poetic world ranges from intimate, confessional and patriotic lyric poetry to works for children and young people. With his translations of world classics such as Shakespeare and Molière, he is one of the founders of modern Slovenian literary translation. Right here, in the place of his childhood and earliest memories, we can get to know the master of words a little differently.

2028
2028 will be the year of Oton Župančič
To mark the 150th anniversary of his birth, 2028 will be dedicated nationally to his life, work and literary legacy.
The Župančič Year will bring together events, exhibitions, programmes and other content that will bring the poet’s work closer to visitors of all generations. An important part of the celebrations will be the renovated Oton Župančič Memorial House in Vinica, which, with its new museum display, contemporary content and experiences, will open a new chapter of Župančič’s world.
The year 2028 will thus be an opportunity to rediscover his work, his relationship to language and place, and the significance his legacy still holds today.
