A house on the site of the poet’s birth house
The Memorial House stands on the site where the poet’s birth house once stood before it burned down in 1888. It later became the home of Franjo Lovšin (1863–1931), a schoolteacher from Vinica.
The house bears three memorial plaques, and in the garden stands a statue of the poet by the sculptor J. Savinšek. As early as 1951, one of the first Slovenian literary museums was set up in the house, confirming its long-standing role as guardian of the poet’s legacy.
What the house offers
The house features three permanent exhibitions: Župančič, Master of Words, Vinica, Centuries on the Kolpa River and Ciciban’s World. They are complemented by temporary exhibitions, literary evenings, guided tours and programmes for schools.
Renovation until 2028
As part of the Župančič’s World project, the house is undergoing a comprehensive renovation. The interior will be redesigned in a contemporary way and the garden outside will be landscaped with an events terrace, with an emphasis on modern technologies for interpreting Župančič’s heritage and on better physical and digital accessibility.
